4.1 The Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) Station

4.1 The Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) Station (circa 1920) still stands (although modernized) and represents the primary reason for Cranbrook’s beginning and early growth. Built in 1898, when the railway arrived in the newly-surveyed town site, it was a Crowsnest Style A depot design, that was enlarged to 3 storeys in 1905. As a major railway passenger centre, it also had large gardens planted on each side, which had matured by the time this photo was taken. The aim is to restore its former grandness.
