5.4 The Commercial and Banking District in Downtown Cranbrook

5.4 The Commercial and Banking District in Downtown Cranbrook (circa 1912). This dramatic architectural view of the corners of 10th Ave, Cranbrook St, and Baker St, shows the pride in building significant structures. When competition with other nearby communities was fierce in the early days, postcard images such as this one were considered essential for Cranbrook to be taken seriously. The Post Office is across the street, with the Norbury Block to the left of that, while the original Bank of Commerce (later Royal Bank) at the left foreground. The new “Spirit Tree” is now here.
