6.3 Pack Horses

6.3 Pack Horses (circa 1898) were the only mode of transportation in pre-railway Cranbrook district. After the arrival of the railway they continued to be used to pack supplies to the communities not on the railway, as well as camps and homesteads. They continued an important role in later years connecting into the remoter parts of the region and for hunting guides, until replaced by trucks many years later. CBK1985.011.018
