11.1 The first hospital built in 1900. The area’s first hospital, built in 1897, had been located nearby at the St. Eugene Mission, but was closed in 1900 when a new hospital (pictured here) was built in Cranbrook. Due to the city’s increasing size and easy connections made possible by the railway arrival 2 years earlier, the hospital became a major regional feature for the city and lasting for another 67 years.
